Colds

Colds – also known as flu-like infections – usually begin with a runny nose, rarely with a slight fever. Later, a sore throat, cough, headache and aching limbs can also develop. The real flu, caused by the so-called influenza viruses, must be distinguished from flu-like infections. The symptoms are similar to those of colds, but much more severe and appear suddenly. There is also a considerable feeling of illness and usually also a high fever and aching limbs.

The treatment

Nutrition

In the early stages, fasting or light food helps, because the stomach and small intestine are the places of origin. After that, treatment is appropriate:

Kapha causes symptoms such as heavy discharge, mucus, feeling cold and loss of appetite. In this case I recommend immediately reducing food intake by two thirds, drinking hot water and taking medicinal herbs such as ginger, basil, angelica, yarrow and ribwort plantain.

Vata causes a feeling of cold, a dry cough and a sore throat. Drink large amounts of hot tea made from thyme, liquorice, guduci, dried ginger and sage.

Pitta symptoms include high fever, diarrhea, discharge, or coughing up purulent mucus. Make sure you rest, because mental work in particular makes the condition worse! Ideal herbs are Guduci or teas made from Centaurium (fever root, centaury), yellow gentian, or camomile
